Louis of Saint-Teresa, speaking of St. Peter Thomas:

“… he had gone to bed in extreme sadness, caused by the fear that his order might perish; in this distress, he turned to Our Lady, asking her to protect and preserve his order. This Mother of Mercy appeared to him that night and assured him that his order would endure until the end of the world, and that the Prophet Elijah, its founder, had requested and obtained this favor from the Son of God while he was present at His Transfiguration.

This vision has been recognized as true by the universal Church, as it was included in the office of this Saint, whose feast is celebrated throughout the Carmelite Order on January 29.”

Michel of the Holy-Spirit, Life of St. Peter Thomas:

“At that time, the sacred Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was under attack and troubled by the jealousy of certain envious individuals. Our Saint, a true child of the Virgin, turned to this Mother of Fair Love and, with the most ardent prayers, entreated her to aid his Order, as she had always done.

Our Lady appeared to him on the night of Pentecost and promised him that the Carmelite Order, consecrated to her service and of which she was the Patroness and Mother, would not succumb to the malicious attacks and pernicious designs of its enemies.

Here are the sacred words that this ineffable Mother of God spoke to her servant, which have been recorded and inserted by the authority of the Church into the lessons of the Carmelite breviary, so that the memory of this prophetic revelation may be preserved forever:

Confidito, Petre, Religio enim Carmelitarum in finem usque saeculi est perserveratura. Elius nanoque eius institutor, iam olim etiam à filio meo id impetravit.

Have confidence, Peter, for the Religion of the Carmelites will endure until the end of the world; and Elijah, its founder, long ago obtained this favor from my Son.”
