Saint Francis of Assisi: A Perfection Unknown Until Now in the Church

Source: archive.org

Saint Francis of Assisi:

“My brothers, Jesus Christ has chosen me, a poor man of nothing, a vessel of perdition and ignorance, so that everything He accomplishes through me may be attributed solely to His goodness and His power.

Inspired by His infinite mercy, He has been pleased, despite our unworthiness, to grant us a new state, a faithful reflection of His own life.

He revealed to me that, desiring to lead us to a perfection unknown until now in the Church, we should concern ourselves with nothing except Himself, His most pious Mother, and the apostles.

I sought His counsel in everything I did and conformed myself to His will in all that concerns the Order. Therefore, do not call for innovation, since I clearly know His judgment concerning it.”
