Importance of considering what Jesus-Christ and His Mother have suffered

O Queen of virtues, Mistress of creatures, and very gentle Mother of mercy! How great is my insensitivity, since my heart does not break with sorrow upon knowing your sufferings and those of your most beloved only Son! If, in this sorrowful knowledge, I am still alive, it is only right that I humble myself, at least unto death. It is to fail the laws of love and pity to see the innocent suffer and at the same time ask them for graces, without sharing in their pains.
Now, with what face can we say, my august Princess, that we have love for our divine Redeemer and for you, who are His Mother, if when you both drink the very bitter cup of so many afflictions, we indulge ourselves in the cup of the fatal pleasures of Babylon?
Oh! If I truly understood this truth! Oh! If I were as deeply moved by it as I wish, considering what my adorable Lord and His afflicted Mother have suffered! How will I believe that injustice is done to me when I am persecuted? How will I dare to complain when I see myself despised and rejected by the world?
